First Ride
Follow these steps after connecting an activity source or uploading a FIT or GPX file.
1. Start with One Ride
Use a recent cycling activity with GPS and elevation data.
Power and heart-rate data can improve the result when available.
2. Wait for Processing
Boulder Roller reads the file and looks for eligible climbs.
Processing can produce:
- one or more matched climbs
- a new climb candidate
- ride-level CAL
- no counted climbs
No counted climbs is a normal outcome. It usually means the route, file, or data quality did not meet the climb rules.
3. Review the Result
The ride result should show what counted.

Total 881 CALCheck:
- which climbs were found
- your time on each climb
- CAL earned
- Leaderboard changes
- Local Legend or other role changes
- whether a new climb candidate needs review
4. Check Timing
CAL is awarded from eligible counted ride effort.
DUNG rewards settle later through eligible climb roles and Vault economics.
If the app shows a result as pending or processing, wait for the ride state to finish before treating the final numbers as settled.
5. Choose a Next Action
Depending on the result, you can:
- Ride the climb again.
- Chase a Leaderboard position.
- Create an eligible new climb candidate.
- Deposit CAL into a Climb's Vault.
- Collect DUNG when rewards are available.
- Open BoulderScan for transaction and settlement detail.
Notes
- Not every ride produces a counted climb.
- Better GPS and elevation data improves detection.
- Staking supports a Climb, but it does not change ride results.
- Founder, KOM, Leaderboard, Local Legend, and staker are separate roles.
- Open BoulderScan for transaction and settlement detail.
